The proportion of crimes has declined in the country, states a report released by the Nepal Police on Sunday. The report states that according to the latest record from mid August 2014 to mid January 2015, at least 13,757 crimes were registered, which is less than the number registered in the same period in the preceding year. Organizing a press conference at the NP headquarters, Nepal Police informed that various crimes such as murder, murder attempt, serious crime, contraband drugs, kidnapping, robbery, possession of arms and ammunition, human trafficking and cases of rape registered during this period was lower than the number of these crimes registered during the same period last year. Speaking at the conference, Central Spokesperson of Nepal Police, DIG Kamal Singh Bam provided a comparative appraisal of the crimes registered in the period accross the country, in addition to presenting crime record of the last three years. DIG Bam said that Nepal Police was running a project worth 16.3 million pound sterling with the assistance of the British government to ensure easy access to justice to the women, poor and the marginalized civilians, and to strengthen their participation in the process of the rule of law. According to Bam, 14.5 million would be allocated for reformation and modernization of the institution of Nepal Police while 2 million would be channelled for establishing women and children service centre. He added that a board had been formed to demarcate criteria for selecting districts for implementing the project, and for classifying the areas of priority. DIG Bam said the board would also operate and monitor if the project had been fully implemented.
